Embracing Challenges

In light of our theme of “Embracing Challenges”, we felt it fitting to open up a little bit about some of the challenges we faced in bringing Lotus Magazine to life. The first time we chatted about it, Lotus Magazine was just an abstract concept filled with all sorts of wild ideas. The second time, our meeting was intentional. We sat down to hash out the details.

You know when you always tell yourself you’re going to do something “someday” but there’s always that extra step between telling yourself and actually taking action? That second meeting was us bravely taking that extra step. Little did we know that we were in for one challenge after another, from establishing the fundamental design concept for our magazine to trying our hand at the social media marketing game. Neither of us had any relevant background or expertise, so we were starting from square 1, learning as we went.

There were so many late nights and long discussions about things like finding a good magazine platform to release our issues, putting together a working website, building our audience, curating our content, crafting a compelling photoshoot and interview for the cover girl…the list goes on. We were naïve and clueless with high hopes, but that was always the beauty of it. Just 2 average girls trying to stick up for a community that is near and dear to us both.

After the release of our first issue, we heaved a great sigh of relief–only to sit down a week later to hash out the details for the next one, because we had just opened the floodgates. And fortunately, we found blessings along the way–our mission brought in passionate team members who have fearlessly jumped on this challenge with us so we didn’t have to brave it alone. Furthermore, the reception of our first issue was overwhelmingly positive.

Now, more than a year into Lotus Magazine, we still continue to face endless challenges. But none that we are afraid to tackle. We are thankful for those who have believed in us since day one and who continue to support us in any way, shape, or form.
