Lotus Magazine continuously works to curate content that echoes the voices of our community and presents a variety of perspectives, so we invite you to send your ideas and get your work published here. Our editorial calendar is fully updated with our deadlines for the year and the themes for each issue.

We are now accepting submissions for our Q1 issue, which are due November 13, 2024. The theme for Q1 is “Roots and Reflections”! Any articles that fit into the theme in some way are welcome, and if you would like to contribute but need a bit of inspiration, here are a few thought-provoking questions below to help spark some creativity for the theme:

Identity

  • Did you have any moments similar to the “lunchbox moment” that made you feel ashamed at the time but now brings you pride?

  • What were some things your parents did that may have embarrassed you as a child, but as an adult, you empathize with or even agree with?

  • Is language preservation important to you? Why?

  • What parts of your culture are you proud to share with others? Are there parts that you have decided to let go of in forging your own identity?

Media/Entertainment

  • What were some songs or musical artists from your childhood that have influenced you?

  • Is there any Asian celebrity/influencer that has brought you to be more comfortable in your identity? How so?

  • Have there been moments on screen (movies, TV, Youtube, etc.) that you strongly identified with (or didn’t)? What do you hope to see moving forward?

Culture/Community

  • What traditions or values have you redefined to pave your own path as an AAPI individual? What are the core pieces that you want to make sure to keep?

  • What specific communities are you involved with in the AAPI circle and how have they influenced or supported you?

Lifestyle

  • How do you incorporate your Asian American upbringing into your daily life (i.e. Asian products you swear by, things you do in your everyday life, ingredients or recipes you cook with, etc.)?

Art/Prose

  • What are some notable works by AAPI artists/writers that have stuck with you?

  • Any pieces of art or prose that relate to the theme are welcome!
