What is up with the Asian Glow?

Featuring: JOYN
Creative Direction & Writing By: Kathy Huynh, Alyssa Chiang

Heading into the holidays, we may find ourselves consuming more of that liquid joy…but for some of us, that joy comes with a certain glow. Not the kind that you work for with your 10-step skincare routine, but one you can’t really help. And then the comments start flowing in–you’ve probably heard them all. “Wow, you match your shirt.” “Are you alright? You’re looking a little red…” Why does this happen?!

Alcohol Metabolism

The redness and the nasty hangovers we experience are a result of acetaldehyde buildup. Normally, we should have enzymes that do the work: Alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) breaks down the ethanol in our alcohol, converting it into acetaldehyde. This is a toxin that needs to be removed by Aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2). But for many of us in the AAPI community, our ALDH2 enzymes are dormant, which leads to the dreaded acetaldehyde buildup!

I’ve dreamt about creating a natural solution for alcohol flush for over a decade. I used antacids to cover up my symptoms for years, which ultimately led to chronic digestive issues and stomach ulcers. That’s when I knew it was time to make a change.

The Fix

To ensure that we can break down acetaldehyde properly, we need to supplement with ALDH2!

JOYN’s Here to the Rescue!

JOYN’s founder, Brynn, suffers from the Asian glow and bad hangovers, and she found that she was not alone. The community needed a solution, so she sought one that was rooted in science. As a result, she worked to create a blend that includes detoxifying and anti-inflammatory vitamins and antioxidants, and enzyme boosters and amino acids that promote alcohol metabolism and breakdown. The final product is naturally-sourced, fast-acting, and works to reduce alcohol flush and prevent bad hangover symptoms.
