Cover Girl Check-in: Annika Kim Constantino

Annika Kim Constantino, UC Berkeley graduate

What have you been up to since we last chatted a little more than a year ago?
I am now finishing up my senior year of undergraduate studies at UC Berkeley and will graduate in May! I’ve spent the last year developing myself as a journalist by working at CNBC for three semesters and continuing to write for my school newspaper. I have also gotten the opportunity to transition to in person classes again, which has allowed me to make more memories with my college friends and do things that I missed during the first two years of the pandemic. From playing in an orchestra again, going to museums, attending concerts, eating with friends, and traveling.

What’s next for you?
I will be working full time at CNBC after I graduate, with plans to eventually move to New York City within the next year. Before starting my job, I will be going on a European tour with the UC Berkeley Symphony Orchestra and will live in San Diego for a few months. I look forward to traveling this summer and spending time with family after living apart from then for the past four years.

What are you nervous about?
I am nervous about starting a new chapter in my life. I will miss the life I’ve been living for the past four years where I get to be surrounded by some of my closest friends and get to be active in a campus community. I also have fears about moving to a completely new city, especially since I experienced a lot of initial difficulties when I first moved to Berkeley. I just know there will be a lot of growing pains in the next year.

What are you most looking forward to?
As much as the next chapter is daunting, I do look forward to starting fresh again. I think moving and starting a job will give me a lot of opportunities to grow both as a journalist and individual. I look forward to meeting new people, working in person at an actual newsroom office, and living somewhere other than California for once. As I said earlier, I also look forward to spending time with my family before I move.
