Team Member Feature: Andrea Hwang

Hi! I’m Andrea, a content writer and one of the social media managers of Lotus Magazine. I finished up the last of my Master's requirements at Johns Hopkins University last year and just recently moved to LA in January where I’ve started a new job.

I feel like I learned a lot from co-founders Alyssa and Alexis in terms of building team morale. I think they do a great job of keeping us very collaborative and cohesive. Even just sending out positive messages to individuals and sending letters in the mail keeps the team bonded or at least interested in continuing to work with Lotus Magazine.

In terms of personal things, I learned that sometimes the creative space is very difficult, especially in media, but I think it is also a very rewarding space. You can turn a lot of great ideas into colorful and beautiful things. I didn’t recognize [the media space] as a platform to shape my ideas until recent years.

Something that I found challenging was trying to figure out a work and Lotus-life balance and learning to prioritize things in my life and trying to schedule time to fit everything in. I was very interested in continuing and helping out, but I really had to take a step back and be realistic with myself–really thinking through what things I have the actual time or energy for. Doing a lot of social media for work and then sitting down and having to do more social media–it just was so draining. So I needed to be real with myself and give myself that space to learn my boundaries.
